A wonderful keepsake for anyone who loves Thoroughbred horses!

Ferdinand and Exceller were exceptional Thoroughbred racehorses who both met untimely and unfortunate ends. Ferdinand (the chestnut) won the 1986 Kentucky Derby and the 1987 Breeder's Cup Classic, and was also the 1987 Horse of the Year. He won more than $3.7 million. Ferdinand was killed in 2002 in a Japanese slaughterhouse. Exceller (the bay) competed at the highest levels in England, France, and the United States, earning more than $1.6 million. He is best remembered for winning the 1978 Jockey Club Gold Cup, defeating TWO Triple Crown winners in the process: Seattle Slew and Affirmed! He died in a Swedish slaughterhouse around 1997. Heather Rohde created this portrait both to honor the memory of two great horses and raise awareness of the need for retired racehorse adoption and rescue. The artwork has a short poem on the bottom entitled "A Horse's Prayer."

You can purchase Ferdinand & Exceller unframed or framed under glass in a brown wood designer frame and matted in antique white. Ready to hang on your wall right out of the box! Your Ferdinand & Exceller horse racing art is hand signed and numbered by the artist and is of exceptional quality. A Certificate of Authenticity is included.
