Discovery (Display x Light Brigade) was a dominant racehorse whom the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame considers one of the greatest horses of the 20th century. One of the most notable things about Discovery was his ability to carry great weight, earning him the nickname of the "Iron Horse". Running under an average of 131 pounds, the four-year-old won 11 of 19 races and has been retrospectively regarded as the U.S. Champion Handicap horse and Horse of the Year for 1935. He won a total of 27 of 63 starts. Retired to stud at Vanderbilt's Sagamore Farm in 1936, Discovery left a legacy primarily through his daughters. They produced Hall of Fame champions Native Dancer, Bold Ruler, Ruffian, and Bed o' Roses among other quality horses. Native Dancer went on to produce Raise a Native, who sired Mr. Prospector. Interestingly, Discovery's grandsire, Fair Play, was the sire of Man o' War.

Rohde's fine art portrait of Discovery is a great way to honor this excellent horse. Quote on bottom of piece under the horse's name reads: "There is no other horse in turf history that ever attempted to do anything so tremendous or came anywhere near to Discovery in doing it so successfully." You can purchase this fine portrait of Discovery either unframed or framed in a beautiful brown wood designer frame with an antique white mat. Your Discovery horse racing art is hand signed and numbered by the artist and is of exceptional quality. A Certificate of Authenticity is included. Be sure to check out Rohde's other portraits of famous Thoroughbred racehorses!
